These are the peaceful, friendly, cheerful characters that live and work happily together in a perhaps overly protected village, where the evil Gargamel cannot get in.  They talk in a special way, replacing key-words with “SMURF”

As early as 1958 the Smurfs made their debut, although back then, they were support characters in other strips.  However, it didn’t take long for the Smurfs to become stars in their own name.  Today, the Smurfs are some of the most famous characters in the world with successful licensing products within a wide area.  The licensing products get support from the TV, video, CD and CD-Rom successes.  As an example, no less than 256 episodes for TV and 10 million CDs have been produced. 50,000 videos are sold each year in Scandinavia alone.
